Jon Favreau brings the Disney classic to the big screen in all it’s live action and 3D glory!

Disney has been releasing live action versions of their animated classics like Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland and the under-whelming Snow White and the Huntsman. The latest in the series, directed by Jon Favreau (Ironman) is a live action version of “Jungle Book”.

Favreau has collected the best group of actors to voice the beloved jungle animals including Bill Murray (Baloo), Scarlett Johansson (Kaa), Idris Elba (Shere Khan), Ben Kingsley (Bagheera), Lupita Nyong’o (Raksha) and Christopher Walken (King Louie) opposite newcomer Neel Seethi, who plays the man cub Mowgli.

The story is the same as the animated classic with Mowgli rescued by the black panther Bagheera and taken to be raised by the wolves and his mother Raksha. Mowgli was an orphan after Shere Khan killed his father. Khan sustained a horrible burn on his face that fuels his fire to find the man cub and kill it. Bagheera agrees to take Mawgli to the man village and safety from Shere Khan.

Along the way, Khan ambushes the duo and separates Mowgli and Bagheera. Mowgli escapes Khan and is unaware if Bagheera is alive or dead. The man cub stumbles upon the temptress Kaa, a seductive anaconda that is putting the squeeze on the boy until he is rescued by Baloo the bear.

Baloo is a bear with an angle, he wants Mowgli to get him honey on the cliff edge (Baloo can’t climb).Mowgli is happy living the life of the “bear necessities” with Baloo until he is kidnapped by monkeys and taken to King Louie.  Mowgli’s journey winds through the jungle and ends up with a confrontation with the Bengal tiger Shere Khan!

Jungle Book is breath-taking and the BEST DISNEY LIVE ACTION FILM MADE! I normally avoid talking animal films, but Bill Murray and Christopher Walken are perfect as the iconic jungle characters. Jungle Book is also the best 3D film since Avatar!

Walk, Run, Swing and jump all the way to the theater and see “Jungle Book” on the big screen in IMAX 3D! The entire family will love it and leave singing, “eeeeeew I want to be like you:” and demanding more cowbell!

Rating: 6/6!!!

Havin’ A Beer With Kevin Heffernan and Steve Lemme!

Published by:

Today was National Beer Day, so how fitting to have Kevin Heffernan and Steve Lemme from Broken Lizard (“Super Troopers”, “Club Dread”, “Beerfest”, “The Slammin’ Salmon”) in St. Louis to celebrate!  After welcoming them to our town (as we enjoyed our Bud Lights), we got right to it; how is the production of “Super Troopers 2” going?  Well, it has been GREAT!  Kevin and Steve have loved diving-back into their characters and the film is nearly half completed.  They gave us a few World Exclusives as well Continue reading

The Boss- Karl “the Flick Fanatic” Sides

Boss, The (2016)

If Melissa McCarthy is “The Boss”, then she needs to Fire her writers!

Melissa McCarthy Stars in “The Boss” a comedy directed by Ben Falcone. McCarthy previously worked with Falcone on his directorial debut, the under-whelming comedy “Tammy.”  The Boss also stars Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones), Tyler Labine (Reeper) and Kristen Bell.

The Boss tells the tale of orphan Michelle Darnell’s rise from obscurity to monetary superstardom. Darnell was left at an orphanage by her mother for the nuns to raise the poor child. Repeatedly as she grew up Michelle would be adopted and subsequently brought back by the family once they got to know the child and knew what they were in for.

Flash forward to the present, Darnell is an adult and a corporate superstar. She is like the female Donald Trump. She has motivational speaking tours at sold out stadiums that feel like a Rolling Stones concert. Behind the scenes Claire (Bell), Darnell’s assistant keeps her boss’ life together planning her meetings and even whitening her teeth.  Darnell gets a cryptic note from her business rival Renault (Dinklage) who also was her ex-boyfriend. Darnell and Claire head up to the roof only to find Renault on the roof of his adjoining building. The ex lovers quip back and forth until Darnell throws another deal she landed in his face. Michelle made a fortune on a stock tip (insider trading) and stole it out from under Renault.
