Despicable Me 3
Making a third film in this series is truly “DESPICABLE!”
Everyone’s favorite little yellow criminals are back….sort of? The Minions, Gru and his new wife Lucy and the girls (Margo, Edith and Agnes) all return for yet another despicable film aptly titled “Despicable Me 3”. Steve Carrell and Kristen Wiig return to voice Gru and Lucy, but Carrell pulls double duty voicing Gru’s twin brother Dru!
Gru and Lucy are now agents at the AVL, the Anti Villainy League and battling the new master villain Balthazar Bratt (Trey Parker). Bratt is a washed up child star from the 80’s that turned to villainy when his TV show was cancelled. Balthazar attempted to steal the world’s biggest diamond only to be thwarted by Lucy and Gru. The AVL didn’t appreciate the effort when they fired Gru and Lucy for letting Bratt escape.
Margo, Edith and Agnes (Miranda Cosgrove, Dana Gaier, Nev Scharrel) are getting used to having Lucy as their new mom and now
learn that both their parents are unemployed. One of the cutest scenes in the movie is when Agnes sets up a stand in the front yard to sell her toys to help earn money for the family. Adorable! Notice we haven’t mentioned the yellow guys yet??? The minions, now led by Mel, are excited by Gru’s unemployment thinking they were going back to villainy!! Gru tells them no and they leave!
An English butler shows up to see Gru only to be blown up. The guy returns and tells Gru he is there to bring the entire family to visit Gru’s twin Brother Dru! Dru lives on a private island where he raises pigs as a front for the family business….EVIL! Gru was clueless about his brother since his mother raised him after she divorced his father who took Dru.
Dru wants to team up with Gru and be the best villains in the world! Dru has special suits for he and Gru that look like they came off the pages of Mad magazine with Spy vs. Spy. That is where the comparison ends though.
Despicable Me 3 makes the cardinal sin by moving away from the minions and focusing the film on Gru and Dru. The minions are what we love about these films and they are delegated to a few scenes in a 2 hour film, BAD MOVE.
In the end, Despicable Me 3 is an awful film and getting kids to pay for it is truly “Despicable!”
Minions will be turning in the bananas for razzies this year!
