GOING IN STYLE

Crime does pay when Michael Caine, Alan Arkin and Morgan freeman are pulling to heist in “Going In Style!”

Joe (Michael Caine), Willie (Morgan Freeman) and Albert (Alan Arkin) are retired factory workers that are living on their pension. When his direct deposits stop coming and he gets a foreclosure notice on his house, Joe goes to the bank to find out why. Joe is being robbed by the bank on a balloon intrest rate on his house tripling the payments and no pension payments for the last 3 weeks. Joe isn’t the only one getting robbed, as he witness a team of masked men come in and rob the bank.

Joe tells Willie and Albert about the robbery and the pension payments. These guys live on the pension. They go to the plant only to find out that it has been sold and their pension is going to be used to pay debts by their own bank!

Willie who has failing kidneys and only a few months to live, has nowhere to turn and is receptive when Joe tells them they are going to rob the bank. The other guys got away with it, why can’t they do it? They decide to do a test run at the supermarket where Albert’s girlfriend Annie (Ann Margret) works. Security spots them stuffing groceries in their pants and the chase begins with Joe and Willie on a scooter and the security officer on foot. Albert left the getaway car and was in talking to Annie.

The store was a setback so the boys get some help from Joe’s son-in-law who sells medicinal marijuana and hangs out with criminals. Jesus (John Ortiz) runs the pet store and is also a criminal and helps the guys plan the bank robbery. First they come up with an air-tight alibi. They plan it around their Knights of Columbus carnival. Check! They do walk throughs and get their time down under 3 mins, Jesus tells them, “Hopefully the Cops are slow that day”.

Going In Style is a comedy that had someone steal all the laughs from the script! The Robbery happens but it doesn’t go as smooth as the guys expected. You would expect more with this cast of veteran actors. The funniest moments come from supporting actors’ Christopher Lloyd (friend at KoC that has dementia) and Keenan Thompson (Grocery manager).

Going In Style is entertaining but I would recommend a matinee to save money or even wait for the DVD to come out!
