He also brought her a resent, giving Dominika a file with pictures and recordings of her understudy at the Bolshoi plotting with her lead to take her out. Dominika goes off sneaking into the theater and catching the two having sex in the steam room.  Dominika beats them senseless with a broom handle’

The next day she accepts her uncles offer to join “sparrow” school to work with Russian Intelligence. Young people are stripped of the morals and trained to do anything to get the job done at sparrow school. Dominika did well executing a young man with a faucet when he tried to rape her. She impressed the Matron (Charlotte Rampling) of the school who informed her uncle of her progress. Vanya reported back to General Lorchnoi that they have an asset now.

The Russians plan to use Dominika to find a double agent in their ranks. Russian vice cops interrupted a meeting with CIA agent Nash and a mysterious man in Gorky park. Vanya tells Dominika to get close to Nash and discover the identity of the double agent.  Dominika meets Nash and they get close. She tells him she is a sparrow and wants to defect to the USA with her mother. Nash tells her he can help her if she can identify someone giving Russia secrets.

Nash and Egorova begin a “dance” of flirting and cooperation that results in Dominika giving up an executive secretary (Mary Louise Parker) of a US senator who has been selling secrets to the Russians through her lesbian lover, who is also a sparrow. The secretary is arrested and her contact killed. Dominika is the prime suspect and is brought back to Russia, tortured but finally released and back on duty.

Dominika meets with Nash explaining she has a way out…

Red Sparrow is a fun movie packed with violence and espionage, but nothing like SALT or any Bond film. Jennifer Lawrence excels in her roll but the film falls down on the male lead, Joel Edgerton has zero chemistry with Lawrence. Red Sparrow is worth a matinee viewing or definitely check it out on DVD or streaming when it is available.
