Director Garry Marshall gets the calendar out for another “holiday” film, “Mother’s Day”

Garry Marshall (New Years Eve, Valentines Day) got the calendar out and made another multi arc romantic comedy full of A-list Hollywood stars for “Mother’s day”. Mothers Day stars Jennifer Aniston, Timothy Olyphant, Kate Hudson, Julia Roberts, Hector Elizondo Margo Martindale and Jason Sudeikis in a look at the different versions of family’s celebrating Mother’s Day.

Sandy and Henry (Aniston & Olyphant) are the friendliest divorced couple you would ever meet. They are parents of two boys. Sandy is shocked when she learns Henry has secretly remarried a woman half his age and now may be splitting time with her boys on Mother’s Day.

Jesse (Hudson) is married to an Indian doctor and has a young son Tanner. She is estranged from her mother Flo (Martindale) who didn’t approve of Jesse dating an Indian man. Jesse sister and next door neighbor Gabi (Sarah Chalke) also hiding the fact that she is gay and is married to a woman. The big surprise happens when Flo and Earl (Robert Pine) roll up in their RV to surprise the girls for Mother’s day!

Bradley (Sudeikis) is struggling with the upcoming holiday. Bradley is a widower after his wife was killed in action overseas and now trying to cope with grief and raise two girls on his own. He tells his daughters that there will be no Mother’s Day celebration, a mistake for girls missing their mother.

Finally, Miranda (Roberts) is a celebrity host on HSN pushing mood necklace as the perfect gift for Mother’s day. Miranda claims she is not a mother until her agent Lance (Elizondo) brings her a girl that claims to be her daughter.

All these stories end up intersecting in this predictable holiday tale. As with Marshall’s previous attempts at holiday bliss, some of the stories hit but most just miss and are boring.

Mother’s day is the gift you don’t want to give to your mother this May! Do the right thing and get her some flowers or candy, both are better options than this bad romantic comedy.
