Greed is not always good, when you can’t spend to save your family.

All the Money in the World is the new film by Ridley Scott based upon the actual events surrounding the kidnapping of John Paul Getty’s grandson in Rome.

John Paul Getty is the richest man in the world. He explains to his head of security Fletcher Chase,” If you can count your money ..YOU ARE NOT RICH”. Getty is constantly asked for donations from strangers, including his son John Paul Getty II, his wife Gail and their kids ask Getty for an opportunity to work. The old man puts his son in charge in Europe and has his grandson John III help opening his mail.

Gettys son becomes a drug addict doing heroine with the Beatles in India and his wife Gail files for divorce. Getty and a team of lawyers comes after her and plans to buy her off. Gail takes nothing but her kids. Getty hates to lose and especially doesn’t like to lose family.

The mobs in Rome view kidnapping as an industry and see the Getty grandson as a way to make money. A group led by an Italian named Cinquanta takes the boy one evening and drives him to southern Italy. Cinquanta’s demands Millions for the safe return of the boy. Gail calls Getty to beg her father in law for the money to save her son. Getty is asked on the news “How much would you pay for the return of your grandson?” only to have the old man reply “NOTHING.”

Getty does care for his grandson and sends his head of security to monitor Gail and handle the negotiations with the kidnappers. The negotiations drag on and Cinquanta sells the boy to an investor that decides to move things along by sending the boys ear to his mother.

All the Money in the World is a fantastic film, telling the story of the world’s richest man and how he choses not to spend his fortune, not even to save his family. Michelle Williams and Christopher Plummer are locks for awards this winter. This is also one of Wahlberg’s best performances.
