Steven Spielberg and Director Tom Hooper bring the long running successful musical about some “funky” felines to the big screen with “Cats”.

Cats is the award-winning Broadway Musical that has been a fixture on the great white way and now executive producer Steven Spielberg and Director Tom Hooper (Chicago) bring it to the masses on the big screen with an A-list of stars singing and shaking their CGI tails.

The story is that an abandoned house cat named Victoria (Hayword) is befriended by a group of Jellicle cats and told that is was the night of the annual ball where a cat will be chosen for a new life. All the Jellicle cats will sing for the opportunity to be renewed. That is, all except the mysterious Macavity (Elba) a magic cat that is abducting cats so they miss the ball and makes his odds better to be chosen.

The cat population in this film is very prestigious and diversified from a fat house cat Jennanydots (Rebel Wilson) to an elder actor named Gus the Theater Cat and a little minx named Bombalurina (Taylor Swift). Victoria also not6iced a Cat that has been scorned by the others, Grizabella (Jennifer Hudson), a rich cat that is now down and out.

ROCKETMAN

Starring:

Taron Egerton- Elton John

Jamie Bell- Bernie Taupin

Richard Madden- John Reid

Egerton is Captain “Fantastic” in “Rocketman”, the new musical based on the life of Elton John.

Director Dexter Fletcher (Eddie the Eagle) followed up his successful completion of Freddie Mercury’s life in the rock biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody” with “Rocketman”, a musical based on the life of Reginald Dwight…better known as the musical genius Elton John!! Fletcher placed a familiar face in Taron Egerton in the lead as the flamboyant piano man Elton John! Egerton is flanked by Jamie Bell as his brother in music Bernie Taupin and Richard Madden (Game of Thrones) as Elton’s slimy manager John Reid.

I walked into Rocketman expecting another rock biopic, but was pleasantly surprised when young Reginald Dwight (Matthew Illesley) broke into a rendition of “The Bitch is Back” letting the crowd know this is a musical. Its amazing that young Reggie made it out with such a dysfunctional family with a mother, Sheila (Bryce Dallas Howard), who is out with a different guy each night and Stanley (Steven Mackintosh) a military father that showed his child no love. Young Reggie sat down at the piano and played exactly what he heard on the radio prompting his grandma (Gemma Jones) to get him lessons that eventually ended him up at the London music conservatory. Dwight’s introduction at the scholl had the boy play a classical piece from hearing the instructor just playing it having her ask the prodigy “Why didn’t you finish it?” Reggie replied, “That’s where you stopped”. WOW!

Amanda Seyfried returns as Sophie with husband Sky (Dominic Cooper), her three fathers Sam, Bill and Harry (Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgard, Colin Firth) as she is attempting to finish what her mother started by opening the hotel “Belladonna”.

Sophie is on the island while her husband Sky is in New York studying the hotel management industry, so they can make a success out of Hotel Belladonna. As Sophia and her dad Sam ready the hotel for the Grand opening with the assistance of new manager Fernando (Garcia), Sky tells her that the company he is with has offered him a permanent position in New York! Sophie tells him she must stay and do this for her mom as a tribute. Yes Donna (Streep) has passed.

As Sophie dresses up the place and sends out invitations to everyone, except her grandmother who never shows up for anything, to celebrate her mother and launch her dream. The first guests to arrive are Donna’s back up singers Tanya and Rosie (Christine Baranski Julie Walters) and they all begin to remanence about Donna. This is also where the flash backs start with a young Donna (Taylor) and her friends Tanya and Rosie turn graduation into a rock concert. Donna breaks it to the girls she is going on the road to find them a place to sing.
