“Mission Impossible: Fallout” is the third film in the story arc that has Ethan Hunt (Cruise) and his team (Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson) battling the Syndicate. Hunt is delivered one of the classic mission impossible secret messages in a book that explains to Ethan that following the capture of Solomon Lang (Sean Harris), the former leader of the Syndicate, the remaining members are calling themselves “the apostles” and are now lead by a mysterious terrorist called John Lark. Lark and the apostles have set off plagues and have stolen technology to construct nuclear bombs. Hunts mission, if he chose to accept it, find Lark and recover 3 canisters of stolen plutonium before the apostles can set off the nukes.

IMF director Hunley (Alec Baldwin) meets Hunt at a military airstrip to explain they have no clue to the identity of Lark, only that he is meeting an arms dealer named the White Widow (Vanessa Kirby) in Paris. The CIA also shows up and saddles Hunt with agent August Walker (Cavil)to shadow him and guarantee the return of the plutonium. Walker is a blunt instrument killing any apostles he comes across leaving IMF with no leads to the identity of Lark.

READY PLAYER ONE

Starring:

Tye Sheridan- Wade/Percival

Oliva Cooke-Art3mis/Samantha

Mark Rylance- Halliday

Simon Pegg-Ogden Morrow

Steve Spielberg says “GAME ON!” with his new Sci-Fi action film, “Ready Player One”.

It’s 2045 and the world’s resources are gone. People work and spend all their free time in a computer based virtual world called the “Oasis”. The Oasis was created by a video game geek named Halliday and his friend and partner Ogden Morrow. Upon his death, Halliday explained he planted an easter egg in the Oasis…the person who can find it would inherit the Oasis and a fortune.

Wade is a kid living in the “stacks” of Columbus, Ohio (a high-rise group of mobile homes) who plays games in the Oasis as his avatar Percival. Percival plays with a team known as “High Five” made up of Aech, Sho, Daito and gaming legend Art3mis. They teamed up to pursue the three keys that unlock the hidden Halliday Easter Egg. The problem is that evil corporate tycoon Sorrento (Ben Mendelsohn) and his army of players at IOI want the Oasis to commercialize it and sell advertising in it for huge $$$. Sorrento was an intern with Halliday when he designed the Oasis but didn’t give him any advantage to solving the clues.

The First challenge was a road race with Percival driving the DeLorean from “Back to the Future” Against hundreds of people in various card and the IOI ninja bikers. The race is fierce and impossible to win with Dinosaurs and King Kong waiting on the course to protect the first key, Percival deduced a clue and found a back door in the race winning the first key presented to him by Halliday’s avatar Anorak. The rest of High Five also obtained the first key placing them all one the leader board.

Sorrento brings in I-RoK (voice of TJ Miller), his virtual contract killer in the Oasis, to find Percival and kill him. Percival makes a mistake on the second challenge proclaiming his affection for Art3mis and telling her his real-life name, this information overheard by I-rok and given to Sorrento. IOI sends an army of drones to the stacks blowing up Wade’s trailer killing his aunt and her boyfriend. Wade has a secret location inside some junk cars in the dump where he plays in the Oasis, this saved his life. Atr3mis gains the final key in a dancing competition with a theme from Stephan Kings film, The Shining, where you had to dance with Halliday’s girlfriend to get the key.

STAR TREK BEYOND review

Star Trek Beyond posterBoldly Go Beyond

When we last left the crew of the USS Enterprise, they were beginning their five-year mission into deep space; venturing into uncharted territory.  In “Star Trek Beyond”, we pick-up with them two and a half years into their mission.  The crew is beginning to feel stale and bored, no longer enthusiastic or excited about deep space.  After a supply pick-up at Starfleet’s newest (and robust) installation Yorktown, Kirk and his crew Continue reading
