Melissa Rauch really sticks the landing in the new comedy “The Bronze!”
Melissa Rauch co-wrote (with her husband Winston) and stars in the new comedy “The Bronze!” Melissa is Hope Ann Greggory, a local gymnast from Ohio that is the USA’s best chance at a gold medal at the 2004 Olympic games in Rome. Hope grew up being encouraged by her father Stan (Gary Cole) and pushed by her Russian coach. Hope was eyeing a medal until a misstep on the beam and she injured her foot. Hope has her best event left, the uneven bars, but a bad foot and needing a near perfect routine to medal. Hope toughs it out and performs. She sticks the landing and returns to Amherst, Ohio a hero with a bronze medal!
Years roll by and Hope is still living in the past trying to stretch out her 15 minutes of fame to 15 years. The once Olympic athlete is now drinking, doing drugs, masturbates to her Olympic footage and takes advantage of her enabling father. Stan, a postal carrier, cooks, cleans, and supports his unemployed daughter who sneaks in and steals money out of letters in his mail bag. Hope needs to get a job but she thinks she can still live of her celebrity and Stan.
Hope is so domineering over her father that his only other relationship he can have is with his pet goldfish! Hopes ex-coach dies suddenly and in a letter promises to give Hope $500,000 if she agrees to train the new up and coming superstar gymnast “Miracle” Maggie (Hailey Lu Richardson).Hope being her self-centered self agrees to coach Maggie, but then realizes she will de-thrown Hope as the local celebrity. Then the sabotage begins. Hope gets rid of Maggie’s diet and fattens the gymnast up and has her hooking up with boys. On team Greggory, there is no practice.
The Olympic team coach and former gymnast Lance Tucker(Sebastian Stan) comes in to check on Maggie’s progress finding a bulging girl drunk at noon. Lance was Hope’s teammate and boyfriend at the 2004 games, and he tells her Maggie wont make the team. Hope sees the end of her coaching career and a payday until Stan tells her there is no money unless Maggie makes the Olympics and she is coaching her!
Hope has to go to work for real and Maggie is put through gymnastic drill camp!
Melissa Rauch transforms from the nice girl next door we know as Bernadette from the Big Bang Theory to a Tonya Harding raunchy win at all cost athlete in the comedy “The Bronze”. There is a record setting use of the “F” word with Hope talking like a sailor. Hope is a drinker, druggie and has one of the most elaborte and well choreographed sex scenes in movie history! Gary Cole, Sebastian Stan and Hailey Lu Richardson are fantastic in their supporting roles.
I encourage you to GO FOR BRONZE! Go see this film and laugh until you fall out of your chair!!
