THOR:RAGNAROK

Thor and Hulk team up to save Asgard in the new film “THOR: RAGNAROK”

It has been years since the Thor (Chris Hemsworth) defeated Malekith and the Aether, he and Jane have split up and Thor has search the realms for infinity crystals only to have himself captured in hell by Surtur so he can find out what the demon is up to. Surtur explains to the Thunder God, that Ragnarok is at hand and he will tower over Asgard while it burns.

Ragnarok: is the prophecy that foretold the destruction of Asgard.

Upon learning the plans Thor breaks his chains and summons his hammer, Mjolnir. Thor returns to Asgard, thinking he has prevented “Ragnarok”, to find Loki (Tom Hiddleston) still impersonating Odin (Anthony Hopkins). Thor calls out his brother and makes him take him to Earth to see where he stashed Odin. The nursing home is being demolished and Thor and Loki are collected by Dr. Strange who safeguards Earth against evil and Loki is the poster child for evil. Strange moved Odin to Norway, where Thor and Loki spent his final moments with their father. Odin explained that they had an older sister Hela (Cate Blanchett) that he banished when her lust for power drew too great. Now with him gone there is nothing to prevent her from returning to Asgard and taking over all the realms.

Hela appears and battles Thor and Loki and smashes Mjolnir like a paper cup! The three Asgardians continue to fight on the rainbow bridge as they are teleported to Asgard. Hela arrives in Asgard and Thor and Loki are thrown into the cosmos ending up on a planet run by the Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum). The Grandmaster is a cosmic Caesar that captures beings from around the galaxy to battle to the death in his arena. Thor is the latest challenger to fight the Grandmaster’s champion……The Hulk!!!!!

Thor is relieved until the big green guy throws him around the arena. Thor gains the upper hand and is about to win his freedom when the Grandmaster cheats giving the win to Hulk.

Thor convinces the Hulk/ Dr. Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), Loki and another Asgardian … a surviving Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) who swore an oath to protect Asgard to return home to save Asgard. Hela has destroyed the royal army and is searching for Heimdall, his sword and the people he is hiding. Hela has teamed with Skurge (Karl Urban) a bandit that becomes her new executioner.

Thor: Ragnarok is visually amazing in 3D and an instant Marvel classic. I prefer this installment over: “The Dark World” having a far better story and loaded with laughs. Yes, there is a Stan Lee appearance as the barber that cuts Thor’s hair before he battles in the Grandmaster’s arena. Goldblum is fabulous as the grandmaster and Cate Blanchett steals the show as the older sister hell-bent on destruction! I also encourage you to stay until the end of the credits to get both BONUS scenes!!!

Bottom Line: Thor Ragnarok is the funniest Marvel film to date and a must see on the big screen! This should hold you over until Avengers: Infinity Wars comes in 2018!!!

Rating 6/6 Hammers!
